Every building starts as an idea. But ideas are hard to sell — to clients, to competition juries, to investors, to planning committees. A physical model changes the conversation. It turns abstract renders into something people can hold, walk around, and understand immediately.

At 3D Demand, we print architectural models for studios, developers, and planners across Europe. From early-stage massing studies to competition-ready presentation models, we handle the entire process: you send us your file, we deliver a precise physical model to your door.

No minimum orders. No long lead times. Just the model you need, when you need it.

What We Print for Architecture

We work with firms of all sizes — from solo practitioners to internationally recognized studios. The models we produce fall into several categories, each with different requirements for detail, scale, and finish.

Massing & Concept Models

Early in the design process, you need to test spatial relationships, volumes, and proportions. Massing models are fast, functional, and typically printed in white resin or PLA at scales of 1:200 or 1:500. These are working tools, not showpieces — and we price them accordingly.

Turnaround for massing models is typically 2-4 business days. Many firms order multiple iterations as their design evolves, and we offer reduced pricing for repeat orders on the same project.

Presentation & Client Models

When the design is locked and you need to impress, presentation models require a different level of finish. We print these in high-resolution SLA resin, delivering smooth surfaces and crisp details at scales ranging from 1:50 to 1:200. These models can be delivered in white (for a clean, architectural aesthetic) or primed and ready for painting.

For larger presentation models, we section the design across multiple prints and assemble them seamlessly. Our team understands how architectural models are used in practice — on boardroom tables, in client meetings, at public consultations — and we finish them accordingly.

Competition Models

Architecture competitions run on tight deadlines. We've delivered competition models with as little as 48 hours notice, though we always recommend getting in touch as early as possible. Competition models often need to convey a specific design intent at a glance, and we work with you to ensure the print technology and finish match what the jury expects.

Terrain & Topographic Models

For landscape architecture, urban planning, and infrastructure projects, we produce terrain models from GIS and elevation data. These models combine topographic surfaces with building footprints, roads, and water features. Common scales are 1:500 or 1:1000 for site-level work, with larger scales for detailed sections.

If you work with QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar tools, we can advise on the best workflow for converting your data into a printable file.

City & Masterplan Models

Large-scale urban models for planning applications, public consultations, and municipal presentations. These often cover multiple city blocks and require careful sectioning, consistent scale, and durability for public display. We produce these in modular sections that can be transported and assembled on-site.

Interior & Fit-Out Models

Interior designers and fit-out companies use scale models at 1:20 or 1:10 to present spatial concepts for hotels, restaurants, retail spaces, and high-end residential projects. These models focus on spatial flow, furniture placement, and material contrasts.

Heritage & Replica Models

Museums, conservation bodies, and heritage organizations commission 3D printed replicas of historical buildings. These models serve educational, accessibility, and preservation purposes. We work from photogrammetry data, architectural drawings, or point-cloud scans to produce accurate replicas at any scale.

Technologies We Use

Different models call for different printing technologies. We don't push one technology for everything — we recommend what works best for your specific project.

SLA (Stereolithography)

Our most-used technology for architectural models. SLA produces smooth surfaces with fine detail resolution (down to 25 microns layer height). The result is a clean, professional model that looks excellent in white resin and takes paint well. Best for presentation models, competition entries, and any application where surface quality matters.

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering)

Ideal for models with complex geometries, thin walls, or interlocking parts. SLS prints in nylon powder, producing strong, durable parts with a slightly textured surface. Good for terrain models, structural concept models, and models that need to withstand handling at public events.

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)

The most cost-effective option for large massing models where surface finish is less critical. FDM works well for early-stage studies, internal design reviews, and educational models. Visible layer lines can be minimized with post-processing if needed.

MJF (Multi Jet Fusion)

Combines the strength of SLS with finer detail resolution. MJF is ideal for models requiring both durability and precision — for example, large masterplan models that need to travel to consultation events.

Scales We Work With

We print at all standard architectural scales. If you're unsure which scale works best for your project, we're happy to advise based on the model's purpose and display context.

For models that exceed our maximum print volume at the desired scale, we section the design into parts that are printed separately and assembled. The join lines are finished to be virtually invisible.

How It Works

Getting a model printed is straightforward. We've designed the process around how architects actually work.

1. Upload your fileWe accept STL, OBJ, 3MF, and STEP files. Exporting from Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, or any other design tool is fine — we've seen them all. If you need help exporting, we have workflow guides for the most common software.

2. Get an instant quoteUpload your file, choose a technology and material, and get a price immediately. For complex or multi-part models, we'll review the file and send a detailed quote within a few hours.

3. We print and finish your modelOnce you approve, we start production. Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days for detailed models, 2-4 days for massing models. Express service is available for tight deadlines.

4. Delivery across EuropeWe ship to every European country with tracked, insured delivery. Packaging is designed specifically for architectural models — no foam peanuts, no damage.

Why Architecture Firms Choose Us

We're not a generic upload-and-print service that happens to accept architectural files. We understand how architects work, what models are used for, and what matters in the final result.

We speak your language. When you say "massing model at 1:200 in white resin," we know exactly what you mean. No back-and-forth explaining what you need.

We advise on printability. Architectural models often have thin walls, overhangs, and complex geometries that need attention before printing. We review every file and flag issues before they become problems.

We deliver on deadline. Architecture runs on deadlines. Client meetings, competition submissions, planning hearings — they don't move. We've built our process around reliable delivery, not optimistic promises.

We cover all of Europe. Whether you're in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris, Milan, or Zurich, we deliver to your studio door.

Pricing

Architectural model pricing depends on three factors: size, technology, and detail level.

As a rough guide: a massing model at 1:200 for a medium-sized building starts from around €80-150 in FDM, or €150-350 in SLA resin. Detailed presentation models at 1:100 typically range from €300-800 depending on complexity. Large multi-part models for property developments can range from €800-2,500+.

We publish these ranges because we believe in transparency. For an exact price, upload your file and get an instant quote — or contact us for complex projects.
