Urban Development Scale Model

The Challenge

A Copenhagen architecture firm was shortlisted for an international competition to design a mixed-use urban block. They needed a presentation-quality physical scale model measuring 80 x 60 cm at 1:200 scale, with enough facade detail to impress the jury. Traditional model-making would have taken 4 weeks — they had 10 days.

Our Approach

We split the model into two production streams. The terrain base, street layout, and surrounding context buildings were printed in FDM using white PLA for speed and cost efficiency. The main competition buildings were printed in SLA clear resin with 50-micron layers, capturing window mullions, balcony railings, and canopy structures with crisp precision. All parts were assembled, sanded, and finished in matte white.

The Result

The complete model was delivered in 8 days. The jury praised the level of detail in the physical presentation. The firm won second place and has since commissioned us for two additional competition models and a client presentation model for a waterfront development project.
